GOTRIbal

On September 1, 2011, in Site News, by TriCrowd

In the month of September we’re partnering with GOTRIbal to bring you great new content and to let you know about the GOTRIbal Multisport Adventure Retreat for Women on November 12, 2011!

What is GOTRIbal? It’s an organization created to empower and connect women through the journey of endurance sport. Much like TriCrowd, GOTRIbal works to bring new athletes into the sport to enjoy the beauty and challenge of triathlon while engaging in an active, healthy lifestyle.

Here’s a little bit more information about GOTRIbal from Tanya Maslach, Founder and Chief TRIbal Officer:

GOTRIbal Mission

GOTRIbal is about connections.

Connections that result in healthier, more active, more vibrant living.

The connections made here provide the resources, tools and means for women around the world to accomplish anything they dream of doing; finishing a 5K run, doing their 20th Ironman triathlon, asking for a promotion, starting a business or even leaving a destructive relationship.

GOTRIbal empowers, engages and excites women through the journey of endurance sports, and offers members the connections, mentorships and resources to realize their toughest goals.

The beauty is in our model: the Pay It Forward process. It’s simple. Once you’ve been given the gift of someone’s belief in you, you pay that gift forward to someone in the TRIbe. It’s that easy.

What Women in GOTRIbal experience…

Once women GOTRIbal , they experience a personal transformation that empowers them – and challenges them – to rethink their long-held beliefs. Through their personal journeys and connections… Read the rest

Exciting changes coming soon to TriCrowd

On June 15, 2011, in Site News, by TriCrowd

We’re excited to announce exciting new changes coming soon to TriCrowd!

First off, we wanted to start by thanking everyone for your continued support and visits to TriCrowd.com. When we started the site last year we simply wanted to put together a triathlon site that we would want to visit ourselves, and we didn’t really think that anyone else would visit the site. Now we have so many people stopping by every day that it’s been hard to keep up with all the new triathletes in the TriCrowd! So to everyone who has visited or joined the site in the past month or so we’d like to formally say “Welcome” and “Thank you”.

So what are the exciting new changes?

The first round of changes comes to our deals platform. As many of you may know we recently launched our TriCrowd Deals program, and the response from the community has been simply amazing so far. Based on the feedback we’ve received from our user we’re ready to take the deals to the next level, which is why we’ll soon be spinning off the deals program to its own website at Trinero.com. Trinero (think Triathlon + Dinero) will soon be the new home of TriCrowd Deals, and we’re excited to continue offering deals to help you live the triathlon lifestyle to its fullest. We’ll still be working hard to bring you deals on your favorite triathlon products and services, but now the deals will be better than ever… Read the rest

Alberto Juantorena

On May 10, 2011, in Site News, by TriCrowd

For those of you wondering who Alberto Juantorena is, here’s a brief rundown from Sporting Heroes.net:

ALBERTO JUANTORENA

DATE OF BIRTH
Tuesday, 21st November 1950

PLACE OF BIRTH
Santiago, Cuba

EVENT(S):
400m, 800m, 4x400m

CHAMPIONSHIP PERFORMANCES:
Olympics: 1976 Gold 400m, Gold 800m.

The athletics world could easily have never witnessed the brilliance of Cuban running legend Alberto Juantorena. Young Alberto’s first sporting love was basketball, but in 1971 he decided to try athletics as an alternative, moving to Havana where he came under the tutelage of Polish coach, Zygmunt Zabierzowski. Within a few months he had recorded a time of 48.2sec for 400m, and his progress was so rapid that he finished fifth in his 400m semi-final at the following year’s Olympic Games in Munich. He first starting making headlines in 1973 when he won the 400m at the World University Games in Moscow, and the following year he headed the world rankings, with a time of 44.7sec recorded at Turin on 24 July. In 1975, he produced the second-fastest time of the year, 44.80sec, when he finished second at the Pan-American Games in Mexico City on 18 August. Two days later, he anchored the Cuban 4 x 400m relay team to a silver medal at the same championships. In 1976, Juantorena decided to attempt the unusual double of the 400m and 800m at the Montreal Olympic Games. Although he was a definite gold medal chance for the… Read the rest

TriCrowd Deals launches this week

On May 1, 2011, in Site News, by TriCrowd

After several long months of work we’re very pleased to announce a brand new feature on the site we think everyone will really love. This Monday, May 2nd, we will launch our new group deals program designed exclusively for the triathlon community: TriCrowd Deals. We’re working with triathlon merchants big and small to bring you great products and services at exclusive discounts of up to 50% off! We really appreciate the support of the community these past few months as we’ve built up our platform and we really hope that everyone enjoys our new deals program.

TriCrowd is a triathlon community website put together by everyday triathletes, and from the start we’ve always set out to make a site that we would want to visit ourselves. This direction has led us to the TriCrowd Deals program and the selection of the group deals you’ll see on the site. We’ll only bring you quality products and services that we think fit with the everyday triathlete lifestyle; basically we’ll only bring you deals that we would want to purchase ourselves. The deals will include offers on triathlon gear, nutrition, training services and more. Most offers will be online deals that can be used by all triathletes nationwide.

Along with the deals program we’re also launching our new sponsorship program. Applications from individuals and triathlon clubs, teams and groups are now being accepted for sponsorship consideration. Ideal applicants are active triathletes and bloggers who have a strong presence in their local triathlon community.… Read the rest

Team TKD, Momma Fitness!

On April 28, 2011, in Site News, by TriCrowd

We’re happy to announce that we’re now a proud sponsor of Team TKD – Momma Fitness! Team TKD is a team of moms that do sport events each month – mostly runs (marathons, half marathons and 10Ks), bike events, and adventure races that help support great charities. They enjoy being active, promoting a healthy, active lifestyle to families and having fun! Starting this summer you’ll be able to catch the TriCrowd logo on Team TKD bags and apparel!

From Team TKD: “Our story — Team TKD is made of 8 women – There is 4 of us that do most all of the races, and 4 that do a few each year. Traci Davis, Kasey Ables, Darnelle Peterson and Shannon Sweatt are the 4 main eventers. We sometimes train together and sometimes on our own. We of course each have our own stories and reasons we do the events. We love the “mommy” time we get from being active! It is important to all of us to be positive roll models to our kids and also is our way of giving back. Each event we do has a great cause that we believe in and love knowing we were part of helping that cause. We have done several 5K’s, 10K’s, bike events, Half marathon and even a full. We are doing a triathlon soon and we LOVE the adventure races. Who doesn’t like to get muddy and climb a wall!! We always do the events as a team… Read the rest

How to Create a Training Plan and Reach your Triathlon Goals

On January 31, 2011, in Articles, by Kim Reistad from Dream Believe TRI

Kim Dunker ReistadWhether you are new to the sport of triathlon or are looking to make improvements on last year’s season, it is important to plan out your training and racing year well in advance of your first race and consider the season as a whole. First you must look at your goals for the entire triathlon season. Set realistic short and long term goals and prioritize them in order of importance (i.e. shorten transition times, get faster on the bike, complete an Olympic distance race). For more information on establishing goals, check out this short article: New Year Goal Setting. Once you have established your goals for the season, it is important to determine your annual training hours. Look at the previous season and figure out how many hours you spent on a weekly
